Social Media Reference Guide

Social media is a powerful tool for sharing a school district’s story, engaging with the community, and staying informed on educational developments at all levels. However, board members must exercise caution when posting online. It is essential to weigh the potential risks and benefits of social media usage.

The VSBA is pleased to provide its members with this Social Media Reference Guide, which addresses frequently asked questions about board member social media practices.

We extend our gratitude to the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) for sharing its Social Media Reference Guide, which has been adapted to align with Vermont statutes and a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision (2024).
